Dashiell Hammett

Dashiell Hammett (1894 to 1961) was an American writer who worked as a Pinkerton detective before turning to fiction. His hard-boiled novels, including Red Harvest, The Maltese Falcon and The Thin Man, created the modern private-eye story, and Sam Spade became its model.
